Arc System Works has rolled out a significant update for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on PC, which appears to have addressed many of the technical issues that plagued the game's launch. The first weekend was rough for the 4v4 tag-team fighter, with players reporting stuttering problems on both PC and PS5 shortly after its release. Even fighting game community icon Maximilian Dood uninstalled the game from Steam during a livestream out of frustration.

Arc System Works acknowledged the issues and promised fixes, and following maintenance this morning, the mood around Marvel Tokon has improved. One Reddit user exclaimed, "It fixed stuttering for me!" Another added, "I had micro stutters, 58fps, and low gpu utilization. All fixed!"

During the launch weekend, PC players took to Steam to warn others about the poor state of the port, which led to a wave of negative reviews. The backlash was so intense that Marvel Tokon nearly dropped to 'Mostly Negative' ratings across all languages. However, this quick update has surprised many, with fixes targeting sudden performance drops, frame rate issues, and high CPU usage.

Despite the improvements, some players still report lingering problems, such as the forced PSN connection and lack of Linux support. Others mention occasional frame drops, though the game feels smoother overall. Arc System Works has promised continued improvements, stating in patch notes that this update is "part of our ongoing work to improve performance, stability, and the overall experience."

Some players are encouraging those who left negative reviews to update their ratings if they're satisfied with the fixes. One player said, "It's perfect for me now. What the f**k, Tokon saved? Guys, update your reviews if you're satisfied to let them know their efforts were worth it..." Another added, "If we really are back, I honestly wasn't expecting a fix this soon. But 4 days after launch they bring out the hotfix. Way to go, guys. All that to say they never should've had this problem to begin with. But I'm just glad we're back after only like 90 hours of pain."

Marvel Tokon is available now for PC and PS5. While there's still work to be done before all players can enjoy characters like Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Blade, Deadpool, and Wolverine without issues, this update is a positive step. For now, you can check out IGN's review in progress. Below are the full PC patch notes from the official Discord:

We've been working on a number of fixes and improvements aimed at reducing performance issues, improving stability, and addressing some specific problems.

Multiple fixes have been implemented to reduce overall CPU usage, including:

  • An issue where the CPU ran high throughout the startup process.
  • An issue where additional load on the system was created due to periodic audio processing during matches.

Sudden Performance Drops: We identified an issue where the game was regularly checking for available audio inputs. These unnecessary checks could cause sudden frame drops and performance drops. This has now been addressed.

Fixed an issue where the frame rate would drop when certain resolutions were selected. Fixed an issue where restarting the game with certain customization items or colors enabled would cause the settings to revert to default. Fixed an issue where changing how attack buttons were displayed to action icons resulted in some buttons becoming unresponsive during the open lobby mini games.

Warm Up Those Shaders: With the game being updated to the latest version, the PC version will prompt you to warm up the shaders. Do so now for a smoother experience.

Auto Graphics Quality Setting: Improved auto spec detection to select a graphics profile that better fits your system.

Thanks for your continued reports and feedback. These fixes are part of our ongoing work to improve performance, stability, and the overall experience.
