DC Unveils Tag Fighter 'DCKO' on Mobile, Leaving Injustice Fans Perplexed

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a new Injustice game, but DC has thrown a curveball with the announcement of a completely different fighting game—on mobile. DCKO is an upcoming free-to-play mobile fighting game developed by Drop Fake, Inc., an independent studio based in British Columbia. Featuring DC Comics characters, this 2v2 tag fighter incorporates collectible and RPG elements, allowing players to level up fighters, unlock stats, and boost abilities with in-game currency. It's set for release in 2027.

This announcement couldn't be more different from NetherRealm's Injustice series, sparking confusion in the fighting game community after the trailer dropped on July 20, 2026. One YouTube commenter wrote, "DC, this isn't the time for you to play games and release an Injustice clone. You know what we want." Another on X said, "Should have been the next NetherRealm game."

Some fans draw comparisons to Multiversus, the Warner Bros. Games platform fighter that was delisted just a year after launch. Notably, DCKO is developed and self-published by Drop Fake, Inc., though it's officially licensed through Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on behalf of DC.

It's been nearly a decade since the last Injustice game in 2017. Hopes for a third installment surged in May 2025 when NetherRealm confirmed it would stop adding content to Mortal Kombat 1 to focus on its "next project." Rumors point to Injustice 3, with MP1st reporting it's in "active development" as of April 2026. Multiple sources, including voice actors for Superman and Aquaman, have hinted at their involvement via now-deleted social media posts, and an artist listed Injustice 3 on their Artstation portfolio.

On July 16, Ed Boon posted a 'Best Injustice 1 Super Move Tournament' poll on X, fueling hope for a new NetherRealm DC fighter. While DCKO adds confusion, it doesn't seem to disrupt NetherRealm's plans, as the studio has reportedly known its next game for some time.
