Double Fine has swiftly brought its quirky adventure game Keeper to PlayStation 5, just weeks after the studio was let go by Xbox. Keeper, a vibrant and surreal journey featuring a crumbling lighthouse and a mysterious bird, received critical acclaim but struggled to find a wide audience on Xbox Series X/S and PC where it launched last year. It was Double Fine's second-to-last project before Microsoft decided to sever ties with the studio. The game's arrival on PlayStation isn't entirely unexpected—Double Fine has released other titles on PS5 during its now-ended Xbox ownership—but the speed of this release is still noteworthy. Additionally, the announcement was made during Sony's major State of Play broadcast today, a move that seems unlikely had the studio remained under Xbox's control. In our IGN review of Keeper, we awarded it a 9/10, saying, "Exploring Keeper's surreal world is a feast for the senses, with every detail from its propulsive score to its Seussian flora and fauna pulling me deeper into its tale." Earlier this week, Double Fine launched a new Kickstarter campaign to secure its immediate future, promising to make Brütal Legend 2 if it raised an ambitious $100 million. Today's announcement was part of PlayStation's latest showcase; catch up on all the news from Sony's State of Play September 2026 here.
