The Witcher 3 Fans Relieved as Low-Poly Pigeons Survive Remaster

The Witcher 3 Remastered delivers a slew of graphical enhancements, but developer CD Projekt Red has kept one crucial creature untouched: the pigeon.

Before the remaster's launch, updated pigeon models were discovered in the game, but they only seemed to apply to pigeons on the ground. This sparked concern among fans, with one Reddit user posting a comparison of the new ground model and the old flying one, captioned, "Gone, but never forgotten."

Fortunately, the cherished low-poly pigeon appears to have survived the remaster. Kotaku Editor-in-Chief Ethan Gach spotted it in the wild on X/Twitter. It turns out The Witcher 3 uses different pigeon models for flying and grounded birds! If anything, the low-polygon pigeon looks even more comical in the remaster, as the updated lighting highlights its lack of detail.

So, while The Witcher 3 Remastered brings numerous graphical improvements, some classic assets remain. Hopefully, CD Projekt Red also preserved the low-detail food in the game.

The Witcher 3 Remastered has only been available for a few hours, but it's already shattering player records. It has broken the 11-year-old game's peak Steam concurrent player count, and that number is expected to climb as the weekend approaches.
