Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets Potential Mature Rating, Fans Speculate Wildly

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is now available to wishlist on all major platforms, and fans have noticed that its pending rating on the Xbox store is more intense than expected. Set for release in Spring 2027, the final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy concludes Cloud and company's journey to save the planet from the impending Meteor. Over the past few months, we've seen glimpses of gameplay, including submarine combat, Highwind traversal, and an explanation of the new FITS system—but none of these suggest a Mature rating. However, the Xbox page currently lists a predicted rating of "Rating pending, likely Mature 17+". According to the ESRB, a Mature rating indicates "intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language." The rating is still pending, and this prediction is just a placeholder based on factors unknown to the public. But why would Revelation be rated Mature when the first two games were rated T for Teen?
