During a recent concert at Wembley Stadium, emo rock band My Chemical Romance paused their set to discuss their love for Baldur's Gate — though frontman Gerard Way revealed he somehow hasn't played Baldur's Gate 3 yet.
In a break between songs on their ongoing The Black Parade 2026 Tour, Way noticed fans holding a banner asking, "Gerard, have you played Baldur's Gate 3?" The sign, reportedly from TikTok user Katana Luciana, caught the band's attention and demanded a response.
"No, I only played Baldur's Gate 1," Way replied. "Not that I probably wouldn't have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion, but I just ran out of time, y'know."
He then asked the crowd, "Did you play Baldur's Gate 3?" to huge cheers. "Is it good?" More cheers erupted. "I would assume so. The first one was a lot of fun. You know, it was the closest thing at the time to playing D&D."
Why ask MCR about BG3? Not only is Way a known D&D fan, but the game is referenced in the opening of their famous music video for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)": "You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and croquet," Way is told. "You can't swim, you can't dance, and you don't know karate. Face it, you're never gonna make it." Well, it took a few more years, but D&D has never been more popular.
As for the Baldur's Gate series, Way has plenty of time to catch up on the phenomenal BG3 while fans wait for a fourth entry or the spinoff TV series. Developer Larian has moved on to making Divinity, a fresh RPG in its own universe. While there's been talk of BG4 from another developer, the shoes are big enough that other studios are reportedly turning it down. Time for another trip to Faerûn in the meantime?
