CD Projekt Red CEO Unfazed by Potential Next-Gen Console Delays Amid RAM Price Surge

In a recent interview, CD Projekt Red's joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, expressed confidence about the future of consoles and the company's adaptability, despite concerns over rising RAM prices that could delay next-generation hardware.

Speaking to The Game Business on September 1, Nowakowski said he is "not worried" about how console price hikes might impact sales of CDPR's games. He emphasized the importance of consoles for reaching a broader audience, particularly casual and semi-casual players, and noted that they are "easy to plug in and enjoy." He believes consoles will "weather the storm," even as rumors circulate about next-gen delays. For him, the method of delivering games to players is "a little irrelevant"—what matters most is the content.

"Content is the king. And if the content is right, people will find a way to play it," Nowakowski explained. He assured that CDPR will be present on whatever platforms players are using at launch, whether that's PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, and will find a business model that works for both the company and players. He acknowledged that developers always want more power to showcase their best work, but they are realistic and can adapt if next-gen is delayed, potentially shelving some ideas for the future. He concluded, "We're not worried on the commercial side. Consoles are here to stay."

This stance has raised eyebrows among fans, especially given PlayStation's recent announcement to end physical game disc production by January 2028. Many worry that consoles might become obsolete if other major brands like Xbox or Nintendo follow suit. However, CDPR remains confident that consoles will persist as long as gamers desire them, a sentiment echoed by players' strong reactions to PlayStation's all-digital future.

CDPR has been in gamers' good graces lately, including helping an indie developer whose equipment was stolen at gamescom by offering to send replacements. The company is also ensuring physical goodies for fans of The Witcher 4, even if the game releases after PlayStation's disc cutoff date.
