Rockstar is reportedly planning to bring GTA 6 to PC in the first quarter of 2027, according to a report from GamesBeat citing four anonymous sources. Neither Rockstar nor its parent company Take-Two has commented on the matter.
If the report holds true, PC players would get their hands on GTA 6 just a few months after the console release, which is set for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. This would be a much shorter wait compared to GTA 5, which took nearly two years to arrive on PC after its console debut.
The PC version could coincide with the launch of GTA 6's multiplayer mode, which fans have dubbed "GTA Online 2" while awaiting official details from Rockstar. Although Rockstar hasn't confirmed an online mode for GTA 6, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy mentioned last month that the multiplayer component—whatever it ends up being called—will launch next year.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has consistently given vague responses when asked about a PC version of GTA 6, often deferring to Rockstar for announcements. In May, Zelnick told Bloomberg that Rockstar "always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers."
Historically, Rockstar has released PC versions of its major titles after consoles, including Red Dead Redemption, GTA 5, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2. However, GTA has a massive and active PC player base, driven by GTA Online and role-playing servers.
In fact, a year ago, Zelnick noted that the industry was "moving towards PC," telling CNBC's Squawk Box that the gaming business was trending towards "open rather than closed." When asked in 2024 whether the lack of a PC version for GTA 6 was final, Zelnick responded: "Well, the lack of an announcement is not something that could be set in stone as near as I could tell, because the only thing that happens after the lack of an announcement is an announcement, I suppose, or a continuing lack of an announcement, I guess that could happen too. It doesn't seem to me that either would be set in stone. But Rockstar has an approach to platforms which we've seen before, and they will make more announcements in due time. I do believe that the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and historically what this company has done is address consumers anywhere they are, on any platform that makes sense, over time."
If GTA 6 does come to PC early next year, one of the main questions players will have is how it performs compared to consoles. Rockstar hasn't confirmed the performance of GTA 6 on consoles yet, so details on frame rate and resolution remain unknown. However, it's expected that a PC version would deliver better performance, provided your hardware is up to the task.
