Exciting new details about Grand Theft Auto 6 have emerged, hinting that Rockstar Games is diving deeper into RPG territory than ever before. In a recent cover story with Dazed magazine, Rockstar spilled the beans on several gameplay features, with a particular focus on how players will manage the daily needs of the game's protagonists, Jason and Lucia.

Players will now need to ensure the Bonnie and Clyde-inspired duo eat, work out, and get enough sleep. These activities will have tangible effects: eating influences their weight, working out alters their physique and strength, and skimping on sleep will leave them looking worse for wear. While it's unclear if sleep deprivation directly impacts gameplay mechanics or just character appearance, it underscores Rockstar's commitment to immersive detail.

This move brings back memories of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which allowed protagonist CJ to fluctuate in weight and fitness. Subsequent titles toned down these RPG elements, though GTA 5 did feature a stat system where physical activities like running and biking boosted stamina and strength.

Another exciting addition is an in-game social media feed for players to scroll through—a feature fans have speculated about since the game's 2023 reveal. The character-switching mechanic from GTA 5 also returns, letting players control Jason and Lucia together or independently. Dazed hints that the duo's relationship is central to the story, with player choices having "repercussions that cut much deeper" than the honor system in Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar North's co-studio head, Rob Nelson, explained their design philosophy: "We look back at our previous games with a critical eye and see where we want to evolve... A lot of what we do is very iterative—we adjust a lot of things by feel based on what is working and what isn't."

This suggests we might see a relationship meter affecting how Jason and Lucia interact. It's clear Rockstar is crafting a more nuanced and interactive experience, building on the success of Red Dead Redemption 2. Fans can get an extended look at the game tomorrow via Netflix at 3 PM ET, with a YouTube release six hours later.

Despite a recent wave of leaks, including a story-focused one today, Rockstar remains committed to delivering a game that exceeds expectations. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19th for Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
