Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look has stormed to the top of Netflix's English Film chart in its first week, amassing an impressive 31.1 million views. This easily outpaced the second-place title, the thriller The Whisper Man starring Robert DeNiro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan, which managed 23.2 million views. Notably, GTA 6 achieved this feat despite not premiering until Thursday, with the viewing window running from August 24-30. All figures come directly from Netflix.
Netflix defines a 'view' as one full-runtime equivalent of watch time, calculated by dividing total hours viewed by the title's runtime. This means a household watching a 27-minute video twice counts the same as two households each watching it once. The streamer likely clarifies this because YouTube counts a view as soon as a video starts playing, and on Rockstar's official channel, the GTA 6 Extended Look has already racked up 17 million views as of 12pm PT when this story was published.
On the TV side, Death of the Pastor's Wife (19 million views) topped the English TV chart, while Facing El Chapo (20.7 million views) led the non-English film category.
Interestingly, it was Rockstar that approached Netflix about premiering the Extended Look, not the other way around.
