According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, Halo: Campaign Evolved, the newly released Unreal Engine 5 remake of the campaign from the original Xbox launch title Halo: Combat Evolved, has sold 1.2 million copies across Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Steam. The game has been out for just two weeks, and Alinea estimates revenue at approximately $67 million. The firm breaks down the platform split as roughly 42% on Xbox, 41% on PS5, and 17% on Steam. Alinea's Rhys Elliott describes the sales figures as 'soft,' attributing this to the game's price point and lack of competitive multiplayer, as well as offering less content than Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which costs $40 and is not available on PS5 but is on Steam. Elliott also commented on the PlayStation sales, noting, 'This landed with an older, nostalgia-driven crowd rather than pulling in a fresh PlayStation audience. As many have pointed out, a Master Chief Collection release on PS5, multiplayer and all, would CERTAINLY have done far better than this campaign-only remake did. At the very least, if the rumoured Halo 2 remake ships with online multiplayer, it’ll sell a great deal more, assuming it comes to PlayStation at all.' IGN's review of Halo: Campaign Evolved gave it a 7 out of 10, praising the execution of what was offered but questioning the necessity of the remake. In our weekly Xbox show, Podcast Unlocked, we enjoyed the campaign but missed the competitive multiplayer that made Halo a phenomenon, especially for PS5 owners who have never experienced Halo multiplayer.
