Microsoft is leveraging the inclusion of a physical game disc in Halo: Campaign Evolved's box as a selling point, a move that highlights the shifting landscape of physical media in gaming. In a social media post and a blog FAQ, Xbox emphasizes that the physical edition will contain a disc, a detail that once seemed obvious but now stands out after recent industry moves.

Rockstar's announcement that GTA 6's physical version will only include a download code, followed by Sony's plan to eliminate discs for new games starting January 2028, has changed the narrative. Xbox's official account on X/Twitter listed "Physical discs" at the top of features in a new Q&A, alongside details on Machinima mode, handheld optimization, and classic physics.

The FAQ explicitly confirms: "Yes! Buying the Xbox or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection."

Rockstar's decision to go disc-less for GTA 6 has sparked widespread discussion, with analysts citing benefits like launch control and cost savings. This also prompted Marvel's Wolverine developer Insomniac to clarify that their game's physical version will include a disc, not just a code.

While Xbox is reportedly working on a disc-less next-gen console (Project Helix), it has yet to announce plans to abandon physical media. Holding off could be a strategic differentiator, especially amid anticipated staff cuts.

Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo's story mode from 2001, marks the series' 25th anniversary and its debut on PlayStation. Whether future Halo games will follow multiplatform or remain exclusive depends on sales, which Xbox aims to boost by highlighting the disc. The bigger question: will this be the last Halo game to ship on a disc?
