Phantom Blade Zero Smashes 4 Million Sales in Just 72 Hours

Phantom Blade Zero has officially become the next big sensation. Developer S-Game has revealed that its wuxia-inspired action game has already crossed a major milestone mere days after launch.

In just 72 hours on sale, Phantom Blade Zero has sold 4 million copies. The official X/Twitter account shared the news with a heartfelt message: “Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!”

Even on day one, it was clear this game was going to be a juggernaut. Phantom Blade Zero shot to the top of the Steam charts immediately upon release, surpassing Steam’s biggest titles like PUBG and Dota 2. It also became the best-selling game on Steam by revenue, outpacing Modern Warfare 4, Aion 2, and Probably Stolen, a viral Cyberpunk shopkeeper sim. On Sunday, Steam concurrent players peaked at a staggering 833,921.

This early success isn’t entirely unexpected. Last week, estimates suggested Phantom Blade Zero had sold over 1 million copies before launch across its launch platforms: Steam, PS5, and Tencent’s WeGame (an online PC storefront in China). Nearly two-thirds of total prelaunch sales came from China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong.

IGN’s Phantom Blade Zero review awarded it a 9/10, saying: “Phantom Blade Zero is an unbelievably smooth action game filled with memorable boss fights, compelling combat, and limitless swagger.”

Phantom Blade Zero is a monstrous hit, though it’s not quite on par with Black Myth: Wukong, which achieved 10 million sales in its first three days.

Roger Craig Smith — best known as Sonic the Hedgehog, Ezio Auditore, Batman, and Chris Redfield — voices the lead character. He’s joined by Maggie Robertson, who played Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil 7, as Mu Xiaokui. Elsewhere in the cast, Donnie Yen served as a key creative consultant and stars as Mó Yuan (Soul’s father) through full facial, voice, and motion capture.
