$150 God of War Laufey Collector Box Unveiled, Game Not Included

In a move reminiscent of GTA 6, God of War Laufey is the latest major title to receive a collector's box that doesn't come with the game itself.

Sony has pulled back the curtain on the God of War Laufey collector's box, priced at $150, which features a detailed statue of Faye. Unfortunately, it lacks a steelbook with a disc copy of the game, or any version of the game, whether physical or digital. Preorders start today at 10am PT via PlayStation Direct, and Sony has cautioned that stock is limited. A full breakdown of the box's contents can be seen below.

As expected, many are comparing it to the game-less GTA 6 collector's box. However, some might find more value in what God of War is offering here. GTA 6's box comes with a slew of Vice City-themed merchandise, like sunglasses, a hat, and a figure of a cartoon gator named Macca. It also carries a hefty $400 price tag, which is hard to justify.

Critics pointed out that GTA 6's box didn't include a statue of Jason and Lucia, and felt it could have been cheaper without certain items. So, God of War Laufey might seem less outrageous to some fans, as it's a smaller box with a statue of the protagonist. Still, it feels a bit underwhelming compared to previous God of War collector's editions.

God of War Ragnarok's collector's edition included Thor's hammer, a steelbook (though no game disc), DLC, a code for PS4 and PS5 copies of the game, and several other trinkets. The God of War 2018 collector's edition featured a statue of Kratos and Atreus, a steelbook with a disc, a physical map, a lithograph, and two small figures of Brok and Sindri, plus a bunch of digital content.

While this is likely intended as an add-on for those already planning to buy the game, it's disappointing that God of War Laufey's box doesn't at least include a complimentary upgrade to the game's digital deluxe edition, which offers special armor and weapons in the full game.

The God of War Laufey – Collector Box will be available in "highly limited quantities" exclusively through PlayStation on February 16, 2027, for a recommended retail price of $149.99 USD/ €149.99/ £129.99. Preorders begin today, October 13, 2026, at 10am local time.
