Rockstar Devs Rejoice as GTA 6 Gameplay Finally Unveiled After Years of Anticipation

Rockstar Games has at last given fans an official look at Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay, and the development team is overjoyed to see player reactions to their hard work.

The first real showcase of what the GTA 6 studio has been crafting arrived as part of the Netflix extended look today. While there's still plenty of side activities, romance subplots, and robberies for Jason and Lucia that remain unseen, the developers at Rockstar are simply thrilled that their efforts can be displayed as intended.

"Our Teams across the World have worked incredibly hard," said production designer Terrance Radcliff. "So proud of everyone. Watching this with coworkers as a Family – and when I get home I’ll watch again with my Family!"

"The first ever game I have played was Vice City as a kid," graphic programmer Mert Kirimgeri remarked. "It's an honour to be working with the most professional, brilliant and kind people on the planet over the most immersive game ever made, not to mention one of the most complex computer systems in human existence. Enjoy!!!"

"Watching this with my colleagues was such an emotional experience," added associate principal 3D graphic artist Sara Lazzeroni. "I've seen quite a few teary eyes. I've spent a quarter of my life working hard on this game and there are no words to express how moving it is to see it all come together and share it with you all."

GTA 6 reportedly truly began development in 2020 and was announced in 2022. After a leak, the trailer then officially made its way online with a first look at Jason and Lucia in December 2023.

Leaks are, unfortunately, nothing new for the GTA 6 team at Rockstar, but they've become an especially problematic part of the pre-launch rollout for the game in recent weeks. Since August 19, the internet has been polluted by early-in-development footage from the forthcoming sandbox crime game.

New videos have steadily flowed from what appears to be the same source, putting an unexpected damper on not only Rockstar's promise to show off gameplay but its November launch as a whole. Now, after the studio issued a statement on the matter, it's firmly turned its attention to its big Netflix debut.

The same goes for its thousands of developers, who are still taking to social media to share their excitement. The internet's first look at GTA 6 gameplay may have arrived unexpectedly, but they're still finding room to celebrate a much more official sneak peek.

"Finally," said Rockstar programmer Angel Ortiz Eleguero. "The team I work with is the absolute dream team, this game is only possible through the effort of so so so many wonderful people, thank you everyone in the gfx/vfx North crew y’all are the besttttt."

"I have the pleasure and luck of working with many incredible people across all departments," lead game tools programmer Bradley Stone said. "It's these people, with the dreams and passion to make the best game ever that make working at Rockstar and GTA6 even more special. It really is a team effort to make a game to this scale. To me, this is Rockstar's magnum opus, for the gamers."

When we'll see more from GTA 6 is unclear, but with 27 minutes of gameplay and loads of previews now out in the wild, there's more than enough to keep fans busy until November.
