The development team behind Tekken 8 has issued a formal response to what they describe as a 'strong community reaction,' following a wave of negative feedback that has pushed the fighting game's recent Steam reviews into 'Mostly Negative' territory.
Over the past week, hundreds of players have voiced their dissatisfaction through Steam reviews and the official feedback portal. The Tekken team acknowledged receiving 'over 700 submissions' and confirmed they are examining each piece of feedback individually.
Many players expressed frustration that Season 3 seemed to amplify existing issues rather than address them. Critics pointed to confusing balance adjustments and a perceived disconnect between the developers' stated goals and the actual gameplay changes. One Steam reviewer captured the sentiment, stating, 'Season 3 was the final straw. It's clear the balance philosophy is no longer about competitive integrity or player satisfaction. Every major patch feels like it does the opposite of what players want.'
In a statement released on March 25, the team announced they are 'reviewing each report daily while proceeding with necessary responses and adjustments.' They explained that while Version 3.00.00 aimed to refine character individuality and reduce excessive rewards from systems like the Heat mechanic, the intended battle experience 'has not fully met your expectations.'
The developers committed to continuing adjustments that balance offense and defense around the Heat system, promising to address elements that create one-sided gameplay through incremental fixes.
As an immediate response, publisher Bandai Namco will release an 'emergency patch' starting March 25-26, focusing on critical bug fixes and addressing the most urgent issues reported through the Tekken Dev Feedback Portal. Priority will be given to problems generating significant discussion in the official Discord server.
Future battle system and character adjustments will be based on comprehensive evaluations of portal submissions. The team has also introduced a new 'requests related to battle and system' category to streamline feedback collection.
Additional Discord channels will be created for player discussions, and while the team acknowledged requests for direct replies, they emphasized focusing on gameplay fixes first.
Looking ahead, Version 3.00.02 is scheduled for mid-April to address other identified issues, with Version 3.01 planned for late spring (Q2).
This development follows the December announcement of Katsuhiro Harada's departure from Bandai Namco after 30 years working on the Tekken series. The legendary 55-year-old developer cited personal reflections following the loss of close friends and colleagues as reasons for his exit.
