Daniel Vávra, the creative force behind the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, is stepping away from game development to dedicate his efforts to bringing the franchise to the big screen. In a recent interview with CzechCrunch (via VGC), Warhorse Studios head Martin Frývaldský confirmed that Vávra is transitioning from his role in developing the studio's next game to spearheading the Kingdom Come: Deliverance movie project.

Frývaldský explained, "Dan has taken on a new role: creating the Kingdom Come movie. We've been expanding the Kingdom Come brand beyond video games for a while now, exploring avenues like comics, concerts, and tourism, but the film adaptation has captured our imagination the most. That's why Dan and I are working hard to make it a reality for the screen—big or small. We already have a draft script in hand."

Addressing potential concerns about Vávra's departure from Warhorse, Frývaldský clarified, "This isn't a breakup with the studio at all. In fact, Dan himself wanted to move on. After delivering three globally successful games, he's been eager to try something different. Bringing Kingdom Come to the screen in the coming years is a major milestone we're aiming for, and that's Dan's new focus. While you won't find him in the office daily, he remains part of Warhorse in a broader sense."

When asked about the progress of the film adaptation, Frývaldský shared, "For a long time, we had interest from people wanting to make a KCD movie, but then the pandemic hit and things went quiet. Now, following the release of the second game, we've revived the idea with renewed energy. We're sensing strong interest from the film industry, and negotiations are already underway. We're not just looking to sell the rights; we want the movie to reflect our vision."

Frývaldský hinted that Vávra might take on a title like transmedia director as the team works to grow the franchise beyond gaming. The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, launched in 2018, was a massive success, selling over 10 million copies. Its sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, released last year, has already surpassed 5 million sales.

IGN's review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 awarded it a 9/10, praising it as "one part sequel and one part coronation" with excellent melee combat and an exceptional story that builds on the original's ideas. For those curious about the changes in the sequel since its early 2025 release, we've got all the details covered.
