Miami-Dade County officials and Rockstar Games have been in discussions to turn parts of Miami into Vice City for the Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing campaign, according to a report from The Miamian. The initial report stated that Rockstar approached Miami-Dade with ideas, but it was later corrected to indicate that the city actually submitted a pitch deck to Rockstar. While no official plans are in place yet, the city's proposals are ambitious and potentially very costly. One idea involves transforming a section of Miami International Airport into a Vice City-themed welcome area, complete with signage, limited edition luggage tags, themed luggage carts, a photo backdrop, and an aircraft wrapped in the game's purple color scheme. Other proposals include activations at beaches, parks, and ports with DJs, food, exotic vehicles, photo ops, drone shows, murals, and more. The city also suggested branding buses and trains with Vice City themes, as well as adding Vice City-themed manhole covers and utility boxes. Some proposals would have long-term benefits for Miami, such as new bus shelters and park improvements, and one unique idea involves creating a "radio lab" at a downtown Miami library where visitors could record and edit music and podcasts. Carlos Suarez, a spokesperson for Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, confirmed the conversations but stated that nothing has been formally agreed to or approved. He noted that any idea would go through the appropriate review process, adding, "Given Miami-Dade's clear influence on the game, we think there could be a unique opportunity to generate revenue for the County while showcasing Miami-Dade to a massive audience." While it's possible Rockstar will use Miami for GTA 6 promotion, implementing all these ideas seems unlikely due to cost and relevance. The final marketing push for GTA 6 begins today with an extended look on Netflix, and IGN will provide a live blog of the event. Recent details have also emerged about specific gameplay mechanics and Rockstar doubling its size to work on GTA 6.
