The launch trailer for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has dropped, and it includes a legendary track from Batman's cinematic history. The trailer showcases fast-paced gameplay, key story moments, and a host of villains from the films, all set to a cinematic rendition of Seal's 'Kiss from a Rose'.

For those unfamiliar, 'Kiss from a Rose' was released early in Seal's career. It wasn't an immediate hit—Seal himself felt embarrassed by it—but it caught the attention of Batman Forever director Joel Schumacher. Schumacher wanted the song for a love scene between Batman and Nicole Kidman, though it ultimately didn't make the film. However, it did appear in the credits, and Schumacher directed a music video to promote the movie. Its inclusion on the soundtrack helped it soar in popularity.

As the name suggests, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a love letter to the Caped Crusader. While it doesn't directly adapt any Batman films, it borrows scenes, character designs, and aesthetics from Batman's movie history to craft an original story—even paying homage to some of Batman's less celebrated moments. The trailer confirms a nod to the finale of Batman & Robin, widely considered one of the worst superhero movies ever made and a film that nearly derailed Batman's Hollywood future.

We recently went hands-on with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and gave it a glowing preview. 'TT Games has created what appears to be a wonderful, joyful, and significant evolution of what Lego IP games have always been – movie tie-ins that let our inner seven-year-olds (or, indeed, our actual seven-year-olds) re-live the cinematic magic,' reads an excerpt. However, critics have noted subpar PC performance and concerns that the final version may not meet expectations.

Fans have drawn comparisons to the Arkham series, which hasn't seen a new mainline entry in a decade. TT Games seems to be incorporating the punchy, rhythmic combat of those games into the world of LEGO bricks.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on May 22nd.
