A member of the fighting game community is being hailed as a hero after subduing an agitated Apex Legends player who pulled a knife at a gaming lounge in New York City.

The incident occurred on the night of June 20 at OS NYC, a gaming lounge and event space. Kofi 'Koustics' Miller was streaming League of Legends on Twitch when he stepped away from his setup about an hour into his broadcast.

During that time, Koustics tried to de-escalate a dangerous situation involving an Apex Legends player who brandished a knife after peaceful moderation failed.

Koustics explained that the player confronted an employee at the bar, drawing his attention away from his stream.

"I stepped outside, dude is brandishing a knife," an animated Koustics described to his friends in a Discord call. "First we were like, 'Yo, you gotta go, you're banned.' We get him to walk outside. But he's tweaking. He's screaming. He tries to come back in with the knife, so I bodyslam him and hold him until the police come."

Koustics claimed that the player landed on their own weapon during the incident, bloodying his clothing, which he showed off during his Twitch stream.

"I put him in a full choke," Koustics relayed. "...I'm mad because this was my rank up game, too. This dude cost me 14 LP."

Firsthand accounts of the incident were subsequently posted on social media, with collegiate League of Legends player 'Shogo' sharing footage from inside the bar, showing the flashing lights of police vehicles just outside the establishment.

Koustics himself also posted photos directly after police arrived on the scene, including the bloody aftermath of the ordeal. "Don't miss the stream," he joked.

Koustics told us that the player had gotten upset while playing Apex Legends, which ultimately escalated into the dangerous scene that played out in front of the gaming lounge.

"If you feel like a game is affecting you that much, you always have the choice to step away," he advised. "If the games are going that badly, then maybe try something less stressful."

Koustics is a popular figure within the fighting game community, known for commentating Dragon Ball FighterZ tournaments. He's also a Sumo Wrestler, who even appeared on a November 2025 episode of SNL for a comedy skit.

He credited his Sumo skills for helping him take down the upset player, saying it helped him keep his cool during the stressful situation.

"I kept my cool," he said. "Everyone got out safe and sound, and no one got hurt too badly. It ended up being a funnier story than it could have been."

Koustics teaches full-time in the Bronx, where he instructs his students in robotics, coding, and even gaming. Previously, Koustics told news outlets that he "feels like a superhero" for his secondary and tertiary careers as a gamer and Sumo wrestler — and he's certainly living up to that status with his latest heroic exploit.
