Veteran voice actor Elias Toufexis has spoken out against the online hate directed at Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, following the developer's decision to prioritize it over Destiny 2. In an interview with PC Gamer, Toufexis—who voices the Assassin in Marathon—acknowledged fans' frustration that Destiny 2 was put on hold for the new game. 'I understand people loved Destiny 2, and then Bungie said, 'We're putting that on hold for Marathon.' People got upset. That's fine, don't play Marathon. Speak with your wallet,' he said. However, Toufexis pushed back against those whose criticism turned into hate, especially from social media accounts spreading constant negativity. 'Life is so short. Just stop tweeting memes under things for six hours. Critique the game? Totally acceptable. But why spend hours hoping something fails?' He referenced the failed PlayStation live-service shooter Concord, which Sony scrapped weeks after release. Toufexis also dismissed accusations that Marathon is 'woke' or 'DEI,' noting that the team he worked with consisted of four white men and two white women. 'People just want to hate. It's sad more than anything,' he concluded. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 fans have been leaving negative reviews on Marathon's Steam page, while others counter with positive reviews. An online petition for Destiny 3 has gathered over 200,000 signatures, but no official plans for a sequel have been announced.
