Shrek 2 Remastered Reveal Trailer Spoofs GTA 6, Confirms November Launch

Shrek 2 Remastered is officially happening, and it's set to launch in less than a month. Announced during today's ID@Xbox showcase for October 2026, Aspyr Media has brought back the beloved cult classic tie-in game from the original Xbox era for 2026. Shrek 2 Remastered is a modernized version of Activision's co-op title, letting players relive those swampy memories when it hits Xbox Series X/S next month on November 10.

The reveal trailer gives a sneak peek at how fan-favorite playable characters and classic moments from DreamWorks' fairy tale sequel have been upgraded with improved graphics, new features, and more. It's been a while since players could take control of Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Gingy, and the rest, but you can get a taste of what's in store in the footage below.

You might have noticed that the opening isn't from the original Shrek 2. Aspyr used today's announcement trailer to address the elephant in the room: its November release date puts it dangerously close to Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 6. Set to launch just nine days later on November 19, GTA 6 seems to have convinced most other games to avoid its launch window—but not Shrek.

Instead of picking a different date, Shrek 2 Remastered is sticking to its November 10 plan. The trailer takes a tongue-in-cheek jab at Rockstar's latest, going as far as recreating its Vice City vibe and even crafting its own version of that iconic Grand Theft Auto box art.

The original Shrek 2 video game launched in 2004 for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox. While we wait for the remaster to arrive in just a few short weeks, here's a summary of the original experience:

"Go beyond the film as you guide Shrek and all his pals on a thrilling, squad-based action-adventure for four players. Voyage through familiar haunts like Shrek's swamp. Tag-team baddies and use each character's special abilities to solve puzzles and accomplish mission objectives."

Pre-orders for Shrek 2 Remastered are available now. IGN's team-up with Xbox for this year's fall presentation is finally here, so be sure to keep checking in for all the latest updates. For more, you can see everything announced during the show's April installment.
