Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sold over 2 million copies within its first day of release, marking a major milestone for the franchise. The game achieved top viewership on Twitch and peaked at 99,451 concurrent players on Steam, a series record.
Martin Schelling, Head of the Assassin's Creed brand, said: "Black Flag has always held a special place in the hearts of the community and ours. Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures and the unique sense of freedom players experienced back then. Seeing 2 million players set sail on day one, along with great reviews from critics, is the greatest reward we could have hoped for."
Ubisoft typically avoids sharing exact sales figures for its Assassin's Creed games, especially so soon after launch. For comparison, the company only confirmed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla had the biggest launch week in series history in 2020, and Assassin's Creed Mirage's sales were described as in line with Origins and Odyssey. Assassin's Creed Shadows, released in March 2025, was the best-selling game of that month and reached 3 million players in its first week, though many likely accessed it via Ubisoft+.
While Ubisoft stated last year that the franchise was exceeding expectations, it's difficult to compare Black Flag Resynced's sales to other recent entries. However, the publisher's willingness to share a concrete figure suggests satisfaction with the remake's first 24 hours.
The game's official description reads: "Strike fear in your foes as you board and sink enemy vessels as Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw. Whether blending into crowds or leading daring assaults, switch between silent takedowns and fierce brawls as you effortlessly wield swords, pistols, and the Hidden Blade. With a cast of historical pirate legends at your side, defy empires amidst the age-old conflict opposing Assassins and Templars."
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on July 9, 2026. Despite the strong sales, the launch hasn't been entirely smooth, with some fans expressing disappointment over microtransactions on social media and Steam reviews. IGN gave the game a 9/10 review, calling it "more than just a shinier version of the same game you remember" and noting it "brings what was already one of the best games in the series up to today’s standards."
