Ubisoft has confirmed that more Assassin's Creed games are coming, but fans shouldn't expect remakes like Black Flag Resynced to arrive anytime soon.

The publisher behind the time-traveling stealth-action series shared a lengthy update post yesterday, laying out its plans. Given that this year's Assassin's Creed 4 remake launched smoothly in July, many assumed remakes of other entries were inevitable—but that's not the case.

In a section titled 'What About Other Remakes?' Ubisoft directly addressed fans' hopes for more re-imaginings. It acknowledged that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has players eager for more, but it sounds like additional remakes won't be happening for a long time.

"One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin's Creed remake actively in development," the company stated. "Our teams are already focused on the next chapter of Assassin's Creed titles, including projects you haven't heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories."

Why not revisit older games? Black Flag has remained a beloved entry in the franchise more than a decade after its original release, and fans have continued to call for returns to stories from games like the original Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, and Assassin's Creed 3. As pleased as Ubisoft is with Black Flag Resynced, the publisher admitted that returning to the West Indies took considerable effort.

"As our first-ever franchise remake, Resynced taught us a tremendous amount," it explained. "Taking on a game that holds such a special place in players' hearts brought both excitement and challenges. Rebuilding old systems from scratch, adding new elements that fit the experience, and balancing legacy with innovation was a massive undertaking. We're super proud of what the Resynced team delivered and how well it was received."

Unfortunately, we won't be donning Altair or Ezio's Assassin robes anytime soon. Still, the absence of remakes in development now doesn't mean there will never be a chance to return to fan-favorite worlds and stories.

"But don't mistake that for a closed door. Like many of you, we love the idea of revisiting our classic titles, and we'll keep exploring opportunities to bring older titles back. That door remains open because, after all... Nothing is true, everything is permitted."

Of course, that doesn't mean the Creed is going anywhere. Ubisoft also noted that its teams are "focused on the next chapter of Assassin's Creed titles," which includes projects fans "haven't heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories." One of those is Codename Hexe, another game the company made sure to mention in its update post. In May, the publisher said it planned to deliver new games in the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon franchises over the next few years.

IGN gave Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced a 9/10 review. We said, "More than just a shinier version of the same game you remember, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced brings what was already one of the best games in the series up to today's standards." Its final major content update added New Game+, Nightmare difficulty, and more earlier this week.
