Marathon isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Bungie has confirmed it has plans to evolve the game's story over at least 'the next few years.' Creative director Julia Nardin teased the next steps for the extraction shooter during an interview with GamesRadar. Although the multiplayer reboot is less than two months old, she said the team has a loose idea of where the narrative is headed. 'We know where we want to take the story over the next few years,' Nardin said, 'but I don't want to say it’s completely locked in because it's important to us that our players be able to help shape it.' Bungie launched Marathon on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 5. The developer plans to build the game alongside its community, a strategy it used with Destiny—though not everyone loved being dropped into years-old stories. Updates have already started shaping the future, but Nardin assured newcomers they have nothing to fear. 'They'll always be able to uncover the mysteries of Tau Ceti's past while experiencing its present,' she said. 'We want every season to be a new entry point.' Recent updates have increased armor and healing consumables and made Cryo Archive easier to access. Season 2 is expected in June, and reports suggest the project had a $200 million budget and isn't at risk of being shut down. We gave Marathon a 9/10 at launch, calling it 'a ruthless and unforgiving extraction shooter that’s worth every ounce of hell it puts you through.'
