Capcom has taken legal action against a YouTuber, compelling them to delete more than 1,000 videos featuring adult-oriented mods for Resident Evil Requiem, which depicted characters in revealing outfits. The British streamer GrizzoUK revealed that he was contacted by Capcom's legal team, who demanded the removal of the content or risk further consequences.
In an email shared by GrizzoUK during a live stream, Capcom stated, 'We have noticed that these assets were used to create adult-focused MODs, and related videos have been uploaded to YouTube.' The company argued that these mod videos violated its Terms of Service and applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.
GrizzoUK expressed confusion over why his channel was singled out, noting that similar mods are prevalent on other YouTube channels. Despite his reservations, he complied and removed the extensive collection of videos. During a detailed stream discussing the situation, he said, 'I need to reassess my channel's direction. Clearly, costume mods are off the table now, but weapon mods might still be viable since I've seen many of those remain untouched. This feels like the start of the end for costume modifications.'
As of now, GrizzoUK's channel remains active, featuring numerous videos, including lingerie mods for games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Stellar Blade, where female characters are shown in bikinis and underwear. It also includes some Resident Evil Requiem videos with modded gameplay, such as playing as characters Hunk or Sherry, though these use default models without any altered skin exposure.
This incident follows Capcom's 2023 statement expressing worries about mods in its PC games, citing potential 'reputational damage.'
