Fable is now slated for a February 23, 2027 release, and developer Playground Games is confident it will hit that date. Speaking to IGN at gamescom, director Ralph Fulton expressed his optimism, saying, 'I feel great about it.' He explained that the decision to move from the previously planned October 2026 window was driven by the crowded release schedule, not by any apprehension about competing with other major titles. 'The rationale behind moving us out of October is pretty apparent to everybody,' Fulton said. 'I was really looking forward to shipping this game this year, but the reasoning is sound. I'm glad we're avoiding that chaotic window.' This is the first official confirmation that Fable was originally targeting October 2026, as prior announcements only mentioned a 'fall' release. October is indeed packed, with Gears of War E-Day from Xbox Game Studios and PS5 exclusive Phantom Blade Zero launching that month, following a September filled with heavy hitters like Marvel's Wolverine, Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Silent Hill: Townfall. However, February 2027 is also shaping up to be competitive, with Fable going up against God of War Laufey, Metro 2039, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Fulton remains unfazed, stating, 'People keep saying that to me, but we don't run scared of other big games. We're a big game ourselves. I'm happy to go toe-to-toe with a bunch of other games. There's just one that I'm happy to avoid entirely.' That game is, of course, GTA 6.
