GTA 6 enthusiasts are buzzing with theories that Jason might be the first protagonist in the franchise to be openly neurodivergent.

In a recent chat with Love magazine, veteran Rockstar Games writer Rupert Humphries discussed how the team crafted the personalities of Jason and Lucia. One remark in particular caught fans' attention: Humphries described Jason as "wired differently."

When asked if Jason's backstory was meant to comment on social class, Humphries explained, "We didn’t want to make any kind of statement with Jason’s backstory. It needs to be understood that he takes the measures he does — drug trafficking and becoming a bank robber, etc. — because of his material circumstances. But a lot of this is up to the player to decide whether he needs to do that, or if it’s a choice he makes because he’s wired differently from other people."

This comment has sparked fan analysis of Jason's behavior in previously released footage. In the extended gameplay reveal from August, viewers noticed Jason frequently missing social cues. For instance, he offers a handshake and keeps his arm extended, only to quickly retract it when the other person loses interest. He also avoids eye contact with certain characters and shows anxiety about meeting a friend, mentioning he feels more at ease with a gun.

Some fans interpret these moments as signs that Jason is neurodivergent, pointing to traits like social fatigue (feeling drained by small talk) and masking (copying others to fit in). However, it's also plausible that Jason is simply a reserved, quiet individual. Given his ex-military background, his behavior might just reflect discipline and restraint.

We probably won't learn much more about Jason before launch, aside from perhaps one more trailer. With GTA 6 now less than 45 days away, Rockstar is gearing up for a massive marketing push. Beyond murals and ads in major cities like New York and Miami, Rockstar will temporarily rebrand the Miami Heat as the Vice City Heat for a single night. They'll face the Bucks in a regular-season NBA game on a Vice City-themed court in Miami on November 18.
