Square Enix's MMO Final Fantasy 14 is set to make a massive impact on the Nintendo Switch 2 next month, with its hefty install size consuming almost half of the console's 256GB memory. According to an eShop listing, Final Fantasy 14 will require 117.2GB when it launches on August 4. That's roughly double the size of the PlayStation 5 version, which benefits from advanced compression, though it's comparable to the PC version. The large file size is understandable given the game's vast content and expansions accumulated over the years. On the bright side, the download includes all five previous expansions—Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail—so no additional space is needed for those. However, a sixth expansion, Evercold, is already in development, likely demanding even more storage starting next January. Interestingly, Square Enix is no stranger to holding the record for the largest Switch 2 games. Until Final Fantasy 14's release, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth held the single-game record at 91.8GB, while the Kingdom Hearts Collection (three games totaling 131GB) held the bundle record. Game director Naoki Yoshida, clad in Bastion armor, announced the long-awaited Switch 2 launch date at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin, along with a slew of upcoming updates. The game will be free to play for its first month as servers stabilize, after which a subscription will be required.
