Final Fantasy VII Revelation is now available to wishlist on all major platforms, and fans have noticed that its pending rating on the Xbox store is more intense than expected. Set for release in Spring 2027, the final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy concludes Cloud and company's journey to save the planet from the impending Meteor. Over the past few months, we've seen glimpses of gameplay, including submarine combat, Highwind traversal, and an explanation of the new FITS system—but none of these suggest a Mature rating. However, the Xbox page currently lists a predicted rating of "Rating pending, likely Mature 17+". According to the ESRB, a Mature rating indicates "intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language." The rating is still pending, and this prediction is just a placeholder based on factors unknown to the public. But why would Revelation be rated Mature when the first two games were rated T for Teen? There are a few possible explanations. One is that the ESRB is being cautious due to Final Fantasy XVI, which received a Mature rating for its sexual themes, language, and violence. Another is that Revelation might genuinely contain more mature content, and that possibility has fans buzzing. Many are referencing the famous "Highwind scene" between Cloud and Tifa from the 1997 original, wondering if it might be more explicit this time. One fan tweeted, "I BEG YOUR FINEST PARDON? Mature 17+?! Spicy Highwind scene confirmed??? Hello?!" Another said, "FFVII Revelation may go M rated? This would make it the second mainline game to do so, and I welcome it. I want Final Fantasy to embrace that mature rating to explore their heavy, more darker themes with a grace and gravitas that gets muddied by having to compromise." For now, it's anyone's guess whether this pending rating will stick. In the meantime, you can check out the latest reveals from Gamescom's Opening Night Live, where the game was showcased alongside other major announcements.
