According to a report from reliable leaker billbil-kun on the French site Dealabs, Forza Horizon 6 will finally arrive on PS5 early next year, despite Microsoft's earlier insistence that it would launch by the end of 2026.
Playground's acclaimed racer initially launched on Xbox Series X and S and PC in May 2026. The PS5 version is now set to avoid a collision with GTA 6, which appears to have its own track and street racing elements, and will reportedly release on January 26, 2027.
Back in August, Tom Warren from The Verge stated that Forza Horizon 6 wouldn't hit PS5 that year. At the time, Playground released a statement insisting it would. Playground has yet to issue a fresh comment following today's report.
Since Xbox CEO Asha Sharma took over from the retired Phil Spencer earlier this year, Microsoft's gaming strategy has shifted to include limited Xbox console exclusives. Gears of War: E-Day, for example, will not release on PS5. Neither will inXile's Clockwork Revolution, which was made an Xbox console exclusive.
Forza Horizon 6, however, has avoided a similar fate. Perhaps that's no surprise, given Forza Horizon 5 reportedly sold over 5 million copies on PS5, generating more than $300 million in revenue. Surely Forza Horizon 6 will generate significant revenue on PS5 as well.
IGN’s Forza Horizon 6 review returned a 10/10. We called it “the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted.”
According to billbil-kun, a PS5 physical edition will land at the same time as the digital version. Earlier this year, Sony announced plans to phase out discs on PlayStation by 2028, sparking massive pushback and petitions with hundreds of thousands of signatories.
The report claims the price for Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 will align with the Xbox version, meaning it’ll cost around $69.99. As a first-party game, it's also available as part of Game Pass, although there are question marks over Microsoft's subscription strategy and day one releases. In July, the former director of Forza Horizon traced a line from the failure of the "well-meaning" Game Pass to the current layoffs sweeping across Xbox.
Just this week, Playground issued a statement finally addressing its community after months of constructive feedback about Forza Horizon 6 was met with nothing but radio silence from the renowned British studio. A second team at Playground is also in the final stretch of development on the Fable reboot, which is due to be released on Xbox, PC, and PS5 on February 23, 2027.
