Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, has released a nearly seven-minute in-engine trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. However, the trailer comes with a 'non-canon' disclaimer, indicating that its content may not reflect the final game's story or gameplay. According to the developer, this teaser was created solely to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Horse.

While the trailer doesn't showcase actual gameplay or combat, it offers a detailed look at the sequel's visual and auditory style through in-engine footage. The video begins with a young woman preparing a meal in an outdoor kitchen, but subtle details quickly reveal a surreal twist: a non-human figure passes by, and a giant oyster shell opens to reveal a small, grey-faced creature instead of a mollusk. The scene escalates as she handles a slab of meat embedded with blinking eyeballs, hinting at the game's dark, fantastical themes.

Game Science advises viewers to treat this as a tech demo for entertainment purposes, similar to a spin-off story they released during Chinese New Year last year, which had no impact on the main game's narrative. The developer first announced Black Myth: Zhong Kui at Opening Night Live 2025 in August, describing it as a single-player action role-playing game based on the Chinese folktale 'Zhong Kui Banishing Evil.' They promise innovative gameplay and improvements over past titles, though no release window or date has been set yet.

Black Myth: Wukong, the predecessor, launched in 2024 on PC and PlayStation 5, selling 10 million copies in its first three days, with Xbox Series X and S versions following in August 2025. IGN rated it 8/10, praising its combat, boss fights, and world design despite some technical issues.
