Over the weekend, Halo Studios released a 6-hour video showcasing the main menu of Halo: Campaign Evolved, featuring the iconic original game music. However, the remade Halo ring has sparked a debate among fans, with some criticizing it for being too detailed.
Fans are comparing the remade ringworld to the 2001 original, scrutinizing every change. The new ring has more detail, but some argue this detracts from the sense of scale. They claim the details are too large, making the ring appear smaller than intended, losing the awe and mystery of the original's simple shapes and abstract markings.
This has become a hot topic in Halo circles. Redditor Haijakk noted, "The main menu just looks like I opened up the model in Blender while the cutscenes have the sauce." Deroqshazam added, "Halo 1 had a Death Star quality to the back of the ring, with tiny ambiguous details and lights that seemed larger than life."
ArmorOfMar explained, "The original's vast, flat surfaces with countless glimmering lights gave a sense of astronomical scale. The new design has oversized structural elements that make it feel like a large machine, not a megastructure." Zwarlie concluded, "The new design is full of pointless greebling, too readable. The original was dark and mysterious; this is bright and cliché."
While this is just the main menu, it shows how invested Halo fans are in every detail of this high-profile remake. This isn't the first concern; former Halo developer Jaime Griesemer criticized the reveal last October, saying, "I made it right and they are breaking it for no reason."
Despite the drama, excitement remains high for Halo: Campaign Evolved, which launches on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on July 28, 2026.
