Hideo Kojima Joins Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Reprising His Cyberpunk 2077 Role

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has cast Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima to reprise his role from Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red confirmed the news on X/Twitter, teasing that Kojima will play "the famous braindance director who was at Konpeki Plaza in Cyberpunk 2077" — a role that's more than just a cameo.

Kojima responded with excitement, sharing photos from his recording session. "I make a cameo appearance in the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 as Hideyoshi Oshima, the character who appeared in the previous game," he said.

In Cyberpunk 2077, players could find Kojima's character at Konpeki Plaza near a bar, though the encounter was easy to miss and not tied to the main quest. There, he discussed his fascination with braindances and his desire to convey "real, raw human emotion" in his productions, asking V if they had any pitches to show him.

Now, Oshima brings his love for braindance technology to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which premieres tomorrow, October 20, 2026. All 10 episodes of the second season will be released simultaneously. IGN praised the season with a 9/10 review, calling it "Amazing" and saying it "delivers the gory, action-packed goods, even if it doesn’t quite hit the highs of its predecessor."

Kojima is also working on games like Physint and OD, but he still found time for cameos. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is one of several anime projects he teased earlier this month, and fans are still awaiting the "big movie" he filmed.
