Hideo Kojima has taken notice of a fan-made port of P.T. that enables the game to run natively on Windows, making it accessible to a broad audience after being stuck on PS4.

P.T., which stands for 'Playable Teaser,' was released in August 2014 as a short demo for what was intended to be the next Silent Hill game, directed by Hideo Kojima and featuring Norman Reedus. Unfortunately, due to a falling out between Kojima and Konami, the project was canceled and the demo was removed from the PlayStation Store in 2015. This is a real loss, as it remains one of the most terrifying games ever created.

Thankfully, a dedicated fan has worked tirelessly to make P.T. playable for those who either deleted it from their PS4s or never had the chance to play it before it was taken down. A modder known as LoreanXavier has brought the famous horror title back to life on PC, and he reports that it is about 97% complete as of now.

LoreanXavier explained that this port is not an emulator or a remake from scratch; on his official Discord server documenting the project, he stated that he is essentially "reverse-engineering" the PlayStation 4 executable, using the game's original assets, along with C++ and Vulkan, to create a version that runs on PC via a dedicated Windows program.

It's a 1:1 recreation of P.T., featuring the "same house, original content and Lua scripts, loops, events, progression, and ending puzzle." It even includes the game's voice-recognition section.

"I've played through it myself. The game hasn't been turned into a different story or a new set of puzzles. Rendering is implemented for PC, and remaining graphical differences are being addressed separately. Optional enhanced graphics can change its appearance without changing the base game," he explained.

A 30-minute gameplay video of LoreanXavier's PC port is already available on YouTube, and fans are already urging him to make his code open-source in case his project gets hit with a copyright strike upon release.

But the most exciting part isn't just that people will get to play P.T. soon; it's that Hideo Kojima himself retweeted an article from GameRant about the port, indicating that he's not only aware of it but seemingly supports its existence.

"The GOAT himself acknowledged my port. I am speechless. Seeing Hideo Kojima notice something I've poured so much time and passion into genuinely means the world to me. Thank you so much," LoreanXavier wrote on Twitter/X in response to Kojima's retweet.

Kojima is well aware of his community's online activities and frequently retweets fan art of his games. Given that Silent Hills never saw the light of day, it's probably refreshing for P.T. to get a new lease on life after a decade of lingering in obscurity.

Kojima's next horror game, OD, is still in development. With Hunter Schafer and Sophia Lillis starring, fans are more eager than ever to experience a full-fledged horror title from the creator of a strikingly terrifying game like P.T., and some even believe the two games are somehow connected.
