Konami is already planning 'second and third waves' of new Silent Hill games, according to producer Motoi Okamoto.

In an interview with Famitsu Issue 1965 (via Game Observer), Okamoto gave a hazy hint at what's next for the iconic horror series. After a long drought, the franchise returned with an initial wave of releases over the past few years, and with that first batch now out, Konami is looking ahead to future projects.

"All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we're relieved (laughs)," Okamoto said. "They've also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it."

He continued: "Successfully launching this 'first wave' comes with great relief, but we're not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves. We can't share specific details, but we're currently looking at a number of projects."

The first wave of Konami's Silent Hill revival included titles like the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, and last month's Silent Hill: Townfall. Townfall, the most recent installment, launched players into the shoes of protagonist Simon Ordell in 1990s Scotland.

It received generally favorable reviews, with IGN giving it an 8/10. We said, "Like the intravenous needle permanently jutting out of its hero's wrist, Silent Hill: Townfall gives this long running series a welcome shot in the arm."

It's a successful run that Konami is happy with, but getting here wasn't easy. After Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills failed to materialize, Okamoto said he had a hard time convincing higher-ups that more games was the way to go. However, as far as he was concerned, "just one remake is not enough," adding, "as a producer, I cannot let it end only with that."

"If there were only one release, wouldn't people think that the development is going to be cancelled again, I thought," Okamoto added.

While Konami's plan for additional waves of Silent Hill games bodes well for fans who have missed the franchise, we already knew the series would continue in some form. Bloober Team, the horror-focused developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, confirmed last year that it was working on a remake of the original Silent Hill.
