The Miami Heat are set to transform into Vice City for their upcoming NBA game against the Milwaukee Bucks. This special one-night event, broadcast live on ESPN, is called A Night in Vice City, and will feature the home team wearing an 'all-new uniform on a never-before-seen court.'
It appears the team is partnering with Take-Two and Rockstar Games for a GTA 6 promotional event. As far as marketing stunts go, this one is pretty cool.
The event will be held at the Kaseya Center at 7pm EST/4pm PT on November 18, just one day before GTA 6 launches. A range of exclusive crossover merchandise has also popped up on the Miami Heat store, celebrating Vice City.
Yesterday, the top of the Kaseya Center, the Heat's home arena, was illuminated to kick off the collaboration between Rockstar and Miami's team. This came after lengthy talks with local officials about how much Rockstar could use Miami as a backdrop for creative advertising.
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional version of Florida, with its centerpiece being a virtual recreation of Miami called Vice City. In the game, the Kaseya Center is known as the Sahara Arena.
Other studios are paying attention to Rockstar's pre-launch moves. Earlier, one of the founders of the studio behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance pointed to GTA 6's pricing as a potential game-changer for the industry and video game prices overall.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously addressed GTA 6's price speculation, stating: 'Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery.'
GTA 6 is priced at $79.99 for the Standard Edition. The Ultimate Edition, which comes with extra in-game content, is $99.99. GTA 6 launches for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles on November 19.
