GTA 5 Modder Challenges Rockstar with Unofficial Nintendo Switch Port, Receives Cease and Desist from Take-Two

A modder attempting to bring GTA 5 to Nintendo Switch provoked Rockstar Games and quickly faced a cease and desist order.

The modder, known as Mojso, was working on porting GTA 5 and GTA Online to modded Nintendo Switch consoles and got a bit too bold. After Rockstar Games released its modding guidelines (which prohibit unofficial ports), the modder posted: "Try me Rockstar, [I don't give a f**k.]"

Three days later, the modder's Discord server was taken down for copyright infringement, but that didn't seem to discourage them. After many warned about how litigious Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two are, the modder suggested they weren't concerned: "Copyright infringement is anything but enforced in Serbia."

Less than a week later, the modder confirmed they had received a cease and desist from Take-Two Interactive and thanked the company for its "mercy." Consequently, the port will never be released, as Mojso stated they don't want to risk any legal issues.

"Paralympics Productions is shutting down on October 3rd. Thank you everyone who supported us through tough times and lengthy development. I am sorry for not fulfilling your expectations and leaving you high and dry. I am thankful for Take-Two's mercy so this is the definitive end," they wrote.

When people pointed back to the modder's post taunting Rockstar, Mojso noted that they didn't actually expect Rockstar to take action.

"They tried me," Mojso said. "[What the] f**k [do] you want me to do? Fight with them in court? I wasn't expecting them to hit back hard."

The modder had been working on this port using leaked GTA 5 source code, which has resulted in a slew of other leaks and issues. Ultimately, it's probably in your best interest not to taunt massive corporations that are known for hunting down people that mess with their IP.
