According to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has already generated over $750 million in preorders across PlayStation 5 and Xbox. The game launches in just two weeks and is one of the most anticipated releases ever, possibly the biggest pop culture event of the decade.

The hype is enormous, and fans of Rockstar's open-world action-adventure series are backing it with their wallets. Sensor Tower's data shows Rockstar has already reached three-quarters of a billion dollars in preorders alone.

As of November 3, an estimated 7.71 million units have been sold, amounting to $751 million in revenue. The platform split is notable: PlayStation preorders significantly outpace Xbox, with a 74% to 26% ratio. This means PlayStation generated roughly $559 million, while Xbox brought in $192 million. Rockstar is profiting massively, and the game isn't even out yet.

For comparison, GTA 5 earned $800 million in its first 24 hours and hit $1 billion in three days, becoming the fastest entertainment product to reach that milestone. Given the current pace, GTA 6 could potentially break that record, but only time will tell after November 19.

These huge numbers are likely driven by fans opting for the $100 Ultimate Edition rather than the standard version. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive, suggested as much in an August CNBC interview, theorizing that the trend reflects "the most avid consumers are the ones who are preordering now."

The Standard Edition isn't much cheaper at $80, which Zelnick told IGN reflects the game's value and is actually a "bargain." He said, "We aim always to deliver vastly more value than what we charge. And we think that price point allows us to do just that. And then of course we have a premium opportunity for people who want to avail themselves of that. And even that one, again, we think is priced in a way so as to deliver much more value than what we're charging."

He continued, "The truth is that the real cost of a AAA video game is a whole lot lower today than it was 20 years ago. Pricing has not kept pace with inflation. And our goal is to continue to over-deliver for our consumers, because how you feel about any experience is the intersection of the experience itself and what you pay for it. So to say that we expect that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be an incredible bargain as experiences go is a gross understatement, because Rockstar Games is known for over-delivering."

GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For more stats, check out IGN's report on how many players plan to take off work on release day, or the concerning number of fans who would give up their pets for a month for a chance to play it a week early.
