No Man's Sky developer Hello Games has once again ramped up its update cadence with the release of the Cosmos patch, marking the game's 10th anniversary. According to Hello Games chief Sean Murray, Cosmos is one of the game's 'biggest and craziest' updates yet, because it finally gives space itself a major overhaul.
'No Man's Sky is often called a space game, and space is a huge part of the experience, but we've never truly updated space since launch,' Murray said. 'In most sci-fi games, space is just an empty void. With Cosmos, we asked ourselves: can we make space feel genuinely alive? Can we make it feel more like home? What if you could own a space station, build star bases, and forge alliances with other players?'
New features include a revamped Star Map, colossal space hulks, fresh space outposts, bio-wrecks, asteroid belts, free-floating orbital bases, and the long-awaited ability to own space stations—one of the most requested features since launch. Players can also form alliances and, finally, travel to the actual star at the center of their own star system.
To celebrate the update, Hello Games has launched a new expedition called 'Our Journey Continues!' It features milestones that represent each of the 40 major updates since No Man's Sky launched in 2016. 'It's like a museum of every update, unlocking features as they were added, along with a spacelog full of interesting facts and developer commentary for each one,' Murray explained. 'It's been a joy for us to revisit those moments.'
