New Warhammer 40K Animation Is Almost Entirely From a World Eaters Berserker's POV—Now I Crave a First-Person Chaos Space Marine Game

Space Marine 2 delivered stellar third-person action, but a big-budget first-person Space Marine game remains elusive. However, Games Workshop's latest Warhammer 40,000 animated show offers a tantalizing glimpse of what that could look like.

During the Big Summer Preview showcase, Games Workshop unveiled the debut trailer for The Butcher's Nails, a new animation heading to Warhammer TV. The gory clip follows a World Eaters Berserker named Makrath, who teams up with Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marines to assault loyalist Space Marines and Astra Militarum soldiers.

The trailer is shot from a first-person perspective, showing what Makrath sees inside his helmet. It features Space Marine HUD elements, a Bolter positioned at the screen's bottom, and enemy outlines like in sci-fi shooters. A standout moment shows Makrath executing an Imperial Fist with a Bolter shot to the face—very Doom.

It feels like a first-person Chaos Space Marine game, and I want one. Space Marine 2 is great, but a first-person perspective could offer a more intense experience, especially playing as a Chaos Space Marine. The World Eaters are the perfect choice: they're the angriest legion (their primarch is Angron), driven by The Butcher's Nails implants that turned them into crazed gladiators. In the current setting, they rampage across the galaxy. Blood for the Blood God!

A first-person melee-shooter hybrid starring the World Eaters would be ultra-gory, relentlessly violent, and fast-paced—perfect for tearing apart loyalists.

Yes, Boltgun exists and a sequel is coming, but that's a boomer shooter focused on Ultramarines. I want something different: this animation in video game form.

For now, The Butcher's Nails might suffice. Games Workshop said "much of the action is from Makrath's perspective" and "the entire episode is almost a single non-stop fight scene."

In other Warhammer 40K news, Games Workshop issued takedown requests for popular Tabletop Simulator mods recreating the tabletop game, sparking community backlash.
