PlayStation 5 Gets Custom GTA 6 UI as Sony Deepens Rockstar Partnership

When you boot up your PlayStation 5 now, you'll see a new custom user interface promoting Grand Theft Auto 6—part of Sony's expanded partnership with Rockstar Games. The PS5's Welcome section features an animated GTA 6 logo that zooms in to reveal a splash screen with game details and a button to visit the store page (and pre-order).

Sony rolled out this update after GTA 6 pre-orders went live at midnight last night, alongside the start of its own marketing campaign boasting that the game "plays best on PS5." Yesterday, Sony published a blog post highlighting PS5 features GTA 6 will use, like the DualSense controller's speaker and haptic feedback.

Amusingly, Sony later deleted and reposted a series of social media posts linking to this blog post. The original posts featured an image of the disc-based PS5, but were replaced with versions showing the digital-only console—more fitting since GTA 6 won't have a disc.

Other additions to the GTA 6 marketing campaign on PS5 include a themed version of the PlayStation app logo on smartphones, which now sports GTA 6 colors and pale tree fronds. Sony has previously stated that GTA 6's launch is the best reason for PS4 users to upgrade, as the game is exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar also eased the transition by offering free upgrades to GTA 5 on current-gen consoles for those with a PS4 or Xbox One copy.

Need to catch up? Rockstar announced GTA 6's price, a $100 Ultimate Edition, released 63 new screenshots, and confirmed physical editions won't include a disc.
