Game Freak, the studio behind Pokémon, has pledged a round of swift fixes following a lukewarm reception to the launch of its ambitious action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation. Despite being known for the Pokémon series, Game Freak has dabbled in other projects, but none as grand as this new title, which hit PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S just yesterday.
Despite eye-catching trailers and an adorable canine companion, Beast of Reincarnation has received a mixed response from players. On Steam, the game currently holds a 'Mixed' rating based on over 1,600 user reviews. IGN's own review scored it 6/10, noting that 'its execution falls short of its promising ideas.' The review criticized the bland, cliché-ridden story, combat that quickly becomes stale due to limited enemy variety and predictable patterns, and disappointing boss fights despite their impressive appearance.
In response to the early feedback, Game Freak has announced a series of updates, with the first patch expected within the next seven days. In a social media post, the studio said, 'Thank you for playing Beast of Reincarnation! We take your feedback to heart and are currently planning a series of continuous updates.' These updates will include camera adjustments, larger text sizes, story pacing improvements, bug fixes, and a change to prioritize the game's Performance mode over the Cinematic setting.
The camera issue, which currently places the view too close to protagonist Emma, has been a major complaint—so much so that PC players have already created mods to adjust the camera and field of view. The text size increase is also a straightforward fix, though how Game Freak intends to improve the story pacing remains unclear.
