Ubisoft has moved to reassure fans concerned by the lack of blood shown during yesterday's Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced reveal. During the game's big livestream premiere, many viewers noticed the absence of gore in gameplay footage, making action sequences look oddly sanitized. In response, producer Justin Ng addressed the situation on social media, confirming that the gameplay shown had been "toned down."
"A few things to quickly address I guess (without getting into trouble hopefully)," Ng wrote on X/Twitter. "There WILL be blood in the final game, and it will not be a paid DLC. We hear the feedback on the VFX and audio cues on fight. It's being toned down."
This echoes a similar situation with Resident Evil Requiem, which also showed no blood during a Nintendo livestream, likely to ensure broad suitability. At least in the Black Flag Resynced reveal, Edward still landed his shots.
Ubisoft has included a toggle to disable blood in recent Assassin's Creed games like Odyssey, Valhalla, and Shadows. It's likely the same option was enabled for yesterday's showcase. Ng also confirmed that social stealth mechanics from the original Black Flag, such as blending into groups and hiring dancers to distract enemies, remain intact: "It's still there #Faithful."
Reaction to the livestream was mostly positive, though some chat participants complained that the popular Freedom Cry DLC won't be integrated into the remaster. Currently, it appears this content won't be remade or sold separately. On Reddit, fans pointed out reused animations from past games like Assassin's Creed Unity and Mirage, but this practice is nothing new for the franchise. Cutscenes still use the original game's performances and motion capture.
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9 for $59.99, with a $200 Collector's Edition also available.
