Warframe community director and live ops lead Megan Everett has stated that 'no one is celebrating' the 'heartbreaking' news of Sony ending support for Destiny 2. The two sci-fi shooters have shared enough similarities to keep them in the same conversation for over a decade, fostering a friendly rivalry between developers Digital Extremes and Bungie. However, when Bungie announced the cessation of all future updates in May, both communities largely called a truce.

As Destiny players come to terms with the end of a game that has become a staple for thousands, several Warframe team members have expressed their condolences. In a conversation with Eurogamer, Everett elaborated on her feelings: 'Truthfully, it's heartbreaking. It's earth-shattering. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd read an article from Bungie about Destiny 2 essentially shutting down.' She added, 'No one is celebrating this. I know people have compared us as direct competitors, but a game is healthy when you have competitors, and they've done an amazing job growing that story.'

The end of Destiny 2 came as a shock to everyone, including Bungie. After the announcement, Forbes reported that much of the studio's staff was unaware until the public statement, meaning development continued even after the decision was made. The final update, Monument of Triumph, launched on June 9. The news has been a tough pill to swallow, leading Destiny fans to sign petitions and flood livestream chats to no avail. Everett noted, 'What's unfortunate is that they announced this, and suddenly people show support. They've been getting negativity for so long. Where was all this love? People need to put the hate away and show the love, because they could have really used it.'

Other Digital Extremes members have also shared their thoughts. Warframe creative director and Lotus actor Rebecca Ford called Destiny a 'force of nature,' adding that 'there is no Warframe without the legacy of Bungie games.' Everett said the community team sees comparisons between Warframe and Destiny 'almost every single day,' but die-hard players know they have less in common than many think. As the competition fades, Everett stated she would 'never say what has happened to Destiny is a good thing,' but acknowledged that having a towering competitor like Destiny helped Warframe grow. 'Having games that are similar enough for communities to come together and talk about both is not a bad thing,' she added. 'I never expect anyone to only play Warframe. Having other games that scratch a similar itch is healthy for our genre. Having Destiny was healthy for us.'
