Remedy Bets Big on Control Resonant as Alan Wake 2 Surpasses 3 Million Sales

Remedy Entertainment is making a major push for its upcoming Control sequel, Control Resonant, even as its latest financial report shows a dip in profits, revenue, and cash flow. The company, known for Alan Wake and Control, has seen Alan Wake 2 finally cross the 3 million copies sold mark, but the focus is now on the highly anticipated Control Resonant.

Remedy's recent financial results are not surprising, given the company's investment in the development of Control Resonant and the steady sales of its back catalog. Alan Wake 2, which launched in October 2023, took time to become profitable. Meanwhile, the multiplayer spin-off FBC: Firebreak received its final update in March due to low sales, as previously announced.

Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who became Remedy's CEO in March, highlighted that the company has now begun marketing Control Resonant, including its reveal trailer during Sony's June State of Play and a second trailer at Summer Game Fest. He noted that annual revenues were down year-on-year, partly due to the absence of FBC: Firebreak's revenue, which included earnings from subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.

Despite the financial downturn, Gaudechon expressed optimism about Control Resonant. The game has already amassed 1.5 million wishlists on PC and consoles and is among the top three pre-ordered PlayStation games in the U.S., Germany, and Brazil.

"We position Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise," Gaudechon said. "In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out. Control Resonant will be available across all major platforms from day one and is priced attractively for an AAA title. Combined with the release window becoming slightly less crowded since our original reveal, we remain confident in our positioning."

Beyond Control Resonant, Remedy continues work on the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, which are still in production. The company also mentioned an unannounced "new project" that has reached "production readiness," though details are scarce. Could this be early development on Alan Wake 3 or another Control title? Time will tell, but Remedy seems committed to its existing franchises.

"We have two established own franchises, Control and Alan Wake, which are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe," Gaodechon concluded. "Remedy will self-publish upcoming games, in which Remedy owns the IP. Growing and expanding the two franchises will be a key part of our future. In addition, we work with a partner franchise Max Payne, originally created by Remedy."

Control Resonant is set to launch on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
