Legendary game director Hideki Kamiya has shared his vision for a cozy Resident Evil sequel where Leon S. Kennedy enjoys a peaceful retirement, marking a bold new direction for the survival horror franchise. Kamiya, who directed Leon's debut in Resident Evil 2, recently joked about a "non-scary mode" for Resident Evil Requiem, allowing him to simply enjoy the series' puzzles. Now, he has pitched a distinctly non-scary sequel idea on social media. Responding to a fan asking if he could develop a Resident Evil game tying up Leon and Claire Redfield's storylines, Kamiya suggested a concept where Leon spends his later years without any zombies. Instead of harpooning mutant crocodiles, Leon would quietly go fishing for dinner. Instead of finding Regenerators in the freezer, he would fix home appliances for elderly neighbors. And instead of zombie dogs, he'd only see his loyal pet hound. "If I made it, it'd turn into a game where retired Leon goes fishing in the countryside," Kamiya said on X/Twitter. "Forages for wild veggies, bakes bread, walks the dog, tends a home garden, drives 50 km to the general store for supplies, invites old buddies over for a barbecue, fixes the neighbor grandma's oven at her request, sells homemade lemonade at the local festival... but that'd be cool, right...?" While many would love to play that game, it's unlikely to happen soon. Resident Evil Requiem is still due for a major story expansion, and fans have a wishlist that includes Ada, Chris, and a marriage reveal—not vegetable picking. But who knows what Capcom is cooking up? This is separate from the recent reveal of Resident Evil: Veronica, launching in 2027. For help surviving Requiem's scarier moments, IGN's Resident Evil: Requiem guide offers tips, tricks, and a comprehensive walkthrough from Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center to Raccoon City.
