Resident Evil Requiem has achieved a remarkable milestone, selling 5 million copies in just five days, marking another major success for publisher Capcom.

According to a press release issued this morning, the new Resident Evil title reached this sales figure after an exceptionally strong launch weekend. Requiem's debut appears to be the most impressive in recent franchise history, surpassing the sales pace of Resident Evil Village and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.

Early signs pointed to a positive reception, with the game hitting a peak of over 344,000 concurrent players on Steam during the weekend—a new series record—alongside highly favorable reviews from both fans and critics. For instance, IGN's Resident Evil Requiem review awarded the game a score of 9/10.

In its statement, Capcom emphasized the technical achievements behind Requiem, particularly the "photorealistic detail, including the character's skin, teary eyes, and flowing hair," made possible by its proprietary RE Engine technology.

However, the game's success is likely driven by multiple factors, such as the return of beloved protagonist Leon S. Kennedy, a strong emphasis on nostalgia with the long-awaited revisit to Raccoon City, and an engaging blend of survival horror and action gameplay that alternates between Leon and FBI rookie Grace Ashcroft.

Capcom effectively generated anticipation before launch by keeping Leon's involvement under wraps until recently, despite ongoing rumors. The launch weekend has been further energized by fans discovering numerous cameos and Easter eggs from the series' past, as well as collaborating to solve the challenging Final Puzzle, which has now been completed.

For those already among the millions playing, IGN's Resident Evil: Requiem guide offers comprehensive assistance throughout the game. Be sure to check out key tips and tricks before starting, and focus on locating essential items early.
