RuneFest 2026 has wrapped up, and we've compiled every major announcement from Jagex's flagship event celebrating its beloved fantasy MMORPG.
This year delivered several huge reveals, the most significant being confirmation that a fourth RuneScape MMO is in development. Jagex hasn't officially dubbed it RuneScape 4—RS4 is the working title—but we know it's being built on Unreal Engine and aims to leverage cutting-edge technology and design, making it sound like a true next-gen RuneScape experience. No release window has been announced, but you can check out the teaser trailer below.
Jagex also revealed a new RuneScape animated adaptation, produced in collaboration with YouTuber Charlie White (aka MoistCr1TiKaL) and production company Lyrical Media. Details on the format and release date are still under wraps, but it's officially happening.
Another major announcement: RuneScape Reignited, launching December 2. Jagex calls it a "defining moment" for the 25-year-old game, designed to reignite interest among lapsed players and energize the existing community. It includes a Remastered Journey and Adventure Guide, a fresh economy, and brand-new hiscores. From December 2–12, players can enjoy full Reignited Access without a membership. The long-awaited Plugin API also launches this month, with players getting an early hands-on before the official release. Check out the debut trailer below.
We also got what Jagex describes as "the biggest roadmap in the game's history." The 2027 content will unfold across three story arcs, all tied to long-running storylines. Hoard of Dragons (January) serves as a sequel to the popular Dragon Slayer quest, City of Gnomes continues the gnome storyline, and Secrets of Karamja introduces a new endgame raid. Additionally, players can expect an Agility skill rework, new skilling and solo bosses, new area expansions, and a new Grandmaster Quest.
Old School RuneScape received an updated roadmap as well. The Golden Gates to Menaphos are finally opening after 20 years, alongside a host of fan-requested content. The Fractured Archive, a new endgame raid, launches October 20. Hardcore Worlds arrives November 4. Next year will also bring the continuation of the Fairytale questline, Quest month, Dungeons of Gielinor, a Mining and Smithing rework, Chosen Commander, and the Tower of Xorphoros.
The recently released spinoff, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, announced the Blood Crystal Saga and updated plans for 2027. The Luminance update, a prelude to 2027's Blood Crystal Saga, launches this December and introduces Elves into RuneScape: Dragonwilds, new elven-themed customization options for player characters and buildings, and the Prayer skill.
The Blood Crystal Saga kicks off in 2027 with Song of Rebellion in early 2027. These updates feature enemies like Moss Giants, Kebbits, and Implings, the Hunter skill, plus new areas to explore, new quests and gear, and new house decorations inspired by the classic RuneScape city of Prifddinas.
Expect quarterly updates introducing new skills such as Hunter and Slayer, along with monthly updates featuring side quests, weapons, decorations, and quality-of-life improvements. Official modding comes to Dragonwilds in 2027 through a new partnership with CurseForge—complete with dedicated creation tools and an in-game mod browser and installer, available across all platforms including console.
