Sony has unveiled the PlayStation Plus monthly games for July 2026, headlined by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This is the 2023 version of Modern Warfare, not the 2011 original, which received mixed reviews from fans and critics, especially for its campaign. It launched just a year after 2022's Modern Warfare 2, following an annual release strategy that publisher Activision has since abandoned. IGN's review of the Modern Warfare 3 campaign gave it a 4/10, calling it 'underbaked, rehashed, and cobbled together from multiplayer parts.' Still, its inclusion is timely, letting players breeze through the story before this year's Modern Warfare 4, releasing on October 23.
Two other titles join July's lineup, available from Tuesday, July 7, to Monday, August 3. Next is For the King 2, a tactical RPG sequel that launched on PC in 2023 to generally positive reviews, though IGN gave it a mixed 6/10. Inspired by tabletop combat, it features roguelite elements and a procedurally generated map as you hunt down an evil queen. Finally, there's CrossCode, a retro-inspired 2D action JRPG with 16-bit visuals that blends old-school dungeon adventuring with RPG battles and loot.
